Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Mexico in observance when Mexican troops in the state of Puebla were victorious over a larger French army in 1862. In the United States the fifth of May is a day to celebrate all things Mexican. A large part of the celebration in the US means consuming plenty of Mexican beer and tequila. The Wines of Fattoria Selvapiana

Fattoria Selvapiana was founded in 1827 by Florentine banker Michele Giuntini in Chianti’s Rufina section. The winery is still owned and worked by the Giuntini family. Since 2002 the winery began to move in the direction of organic wine making practices. Fattoria Selvapiana, Chianti Rufina, 2012 is light garnet red. It has aromas of cherry, raspberry, strawberry and wet slate. The palate is fruit forward with bright red berries and backed by minerals. The tannins are light and this has a medium long finish.
