Wine Star’s “2018 Spirit Brand of the Year” Venezuela’s Diplomático Rum

Diplomatico Rum has been produced in Venezuela since 1959 and has widely be recognized as one of the premier wine producers around the world.  Diplomatic was was recognized as Wine Star’s “2018 Spirit Brand of the Year.”

Diplomatico produces several lines of rums, including Traditional Range, Distillery Range and Prestige Range.  The cocktails here feature rums of the Traditional Range.

The Reserva Exclusiva is an amber hued rum that has aged up to 12 years in small oak barrels to give it a rich and complex nose and mouthfeel that make it perfect for sipping as well as traditional flavorful cocktails.

Planas is a clear rum that undergoes charcoal filtration to give it a tropical feel on the palate and remarkably smooth from start to finish.

Mantuano is rum that is a blend of rums aged up to eight years in a combination of bourbon & whisky barrels.  That aging gives this rum its distinctive dark golden color and aromas and flavors of toasty oak, dried fruit and vanilla.

Old Fashioned 

  • Ingredients:
  • Ice: Over craved ice
  • Method: Add all ingredients to a stirring glass, fill with ice, stir and strain.
  • Garnish: Orange peel
  • Daiquiri 
  • Ingredients:
    • 50 ml Planas
    • 20 ml Lime juice
    • 15 ml Sugar syrup
  • Ice: Straight up
  • Method: Add all ingredients to a stirring glass, fill with ice, stir and strain.
  • Garnish: Lime wedge

Mary Pickford 

  • Ingredients:
    • 50 ml Mantuano
    • 40 ml Pineapple juice
    • 5 ml Grenadine
    • 6 Dashes of Maraschino cherry
    • 6 Dashes of Dry Vermouth
  • Ice: Straight up
  • Method: Add all ingredients to a Boston type shaker and add ice , shake until frosted and then double strain into chilled glass.
  • Garnish: Pineapple leaf
