Early Mountain, Petit Manseng, 2015

Early Mountain, Petit Manseng, Madison, VA, 2015 is deep golden yellow in the glass.  Deep aromas of tropical fruits such as pineapple, chirimoya as well as tangerine.  The palate explodes and the tongue tingles with all of the rich tropical fruits that follow the nose to the mouth.  The Early Mountain, Petit Manseng has a rich mouthfeel and crisp acidity runs through the palate creating a long finish.

Petit Manseng is a native of Southwestern France in the region around Jura in the shadow of the Pyrenees Mountains.  It’s thick skin makes it a hearty grape that can endure harsh weather.  It can be both dry and sweet.

With grilling season upon us Early Mountain, Petit Manseng belongs in a wine bucket on the back deck.  Lighty grilled shrimp marinated in lime juice and cilantro would be a perfect pairing along with grilled summer vegetables.  But, feel free to serve it with grilled white fish or chicken, with thick sliced tomatoes with sea salt and cracked black pepper given a quick turn on the grill as well.IMG_1618

  1. Hi Rich. I am really looking forward to trying this exotic grape here at a VA winery!! I’ll let you know when I find it.

  2. Look for Michael Shaps wineworks, Coopers or now 53rd, Williamsburg winery, Horton Winery, to name a few of the ones I’ve tasted and are on the drier style.
