Ben Marco, Expresivo, Valle de Uco, Mendoza, Argentina, 2013 is deep purple in the glass. Fruit forward aromas of cassis, blackberry, and blueberry backed by a strong sense of minerals. The palate reflects the dark fruits from the nose. As the wine moves through the mid palate the minerals join the fruit and medium tannins emerge lending some acidity. The Ben Marco Expresivo’s finish has rich flavors of dark cacao join the party in the mouth. The finish is long with nice acidity making the mouth crave another sip.
Expresivo is a blend of 65% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. All of the grapes are harvested to farmed sustainably and aged 14 months in new French Oak barrels. Ben Marco the winemaker made this wine to show off how the wines of Valle de Uco expressive themselves, “Expresivo.” True to its name the Ben Marco, Expresivo raises the bar and really shows that Argentina is more than just Malbec.
Enjoy the Ben Marco, Expresivo Ben Marco, Expresivo with foods that can match the richness of the wine. Fatty cuts of beef like rib eye straight off the grill, the fruit in the palate will soften the grills char marks. The fruit in the wine will also pair great with a roasted pork loin with a slightly sweet barbeque sauce. The gamey flavors of sautéed venison with a creamy blackberry sauce will also go great with the Expresivo.
It is hard to go wrong with such a great well-crafted wine. You’ll want to stock up plenty of Expresivo for your wine cellar. The Expresivo should age gracefully for at least the next 10 years.
