Tarapaca, Gran Reserva, Organic Red Blend, Maipo Valley, Chile, 2014 is dark garnet red with purple highlights. It is a blend of organically grown grapes consisting of 40% Syrah, 35% Carmenere, and 25% Cabernet Franc. The Tarapaca, Gran Reserva, Organic Red Blend has aromas of slate and other minerals up front with dark berries and wild flowers. Tobacco, earthiness and toasted oak come in as secondary aromas. The fruit comes out stronger in the palate. The tannins are firm but not overbearing, but the Tarapaca, Gran Reserva, Organic Red Blend can benefit from decanting the wine an hour before serving. This wine will also age gracefully for the next 8-10 years, a good selection to age in your cava.
For now the Tarapaca, Gran Reserva, Organic Red Blend will pair nicely with a rich beef stew. You can also drink it with a nice venison stew. The earthiness of the wine combined with the gamey earthiness of the venison.
