Lighten up your summer with Spain’s crisp white wine, Albariño

With spring and summer fast approaching it is time to think of lighter meals and what wine to drink with those dishes. Time to age those big red wines in your cava until next fall and stock up on white wines to enjoy.FotoFlexer_PhotoBodterrasgauda

Albariño, a grape from Spain’s northeastern corner is the perfect wine to go with warm weather cuisine. Its crisp acidity works with all kinds of cuisine and satisfies the palate. Here is a list of some of my favorite Albariños from a recent tasting at Miami Beach’s Bylbos restaurant.

Bodegas Vionta, You & Me, 2015 has a whimsical name for a serious wine. The You & Me is light golden yellow. Aromas of lemon-lime mesh with Granny Smith Apple fill the nose. The palate is full with bright citrus acidity that is backed with rich minerals. Enjoy the Bodegas Vionta, You & Me with a lightly spicy ceviche on hot summer’s day.

Granbazán, Etiqueta Ámbar, 2015 is golden yellow in the glass. The Granbazán, Etiqueta Ámbar has a unique rich creaminess with light citrus flavors. Granbazán, Etiqueta Ámbar has a fuller body than many Albariños and would work perfectly with a flavorful salmon tar tar.

Martin Códax, 2015 with a new clear bottle design that shows off the wines light golden yellow color. Tropical citrus aromas backed by light minerals fill the nose. The palate has flavors of white peach and tropical fruit. The Martin Códax, 2015 has a long creamy finish. Enjoy with rich Galician style seafood stew.

To label your wine as Albariño the wine must contain 100% of Albariño grapes. Terras Gauda O Rosal, 2015 uses a blend of other native grapes for their O Rosal. Composed of 70% Albariño, 18% Caiño Blanco and 12% Loureiro. Terras Gauda O Rosal is dark golden yellow. Bright citrus, especially lemon, orange and pineapple mix with other aromas such as white flowers. The mouth is filled with citrus, but not too overpowering with a long crisp acidic finish. Enjoy the Terras Gauda O Rosal with a seafood tower of raw oysters, clams, shrimp and lobster.

Expand your tastebud’s experience with the fresh crisp flavors of Albariño. They will be very happy!
